Brora Golf Club

Brora is a very authentic and enjoyable golf course. We came here for the third time!

Gorgeous and unique links course on the ocean front in Brora. Greens, fairways snd tee boxes in great condition. Custom service at the pro shop and cafe/restaurant very friendly and helpful. Tee boxes all well placed, not just after-thoughts. The sheep on the course stayed over on the side of the course while we played. As there are sheep grazing here, each green is protected with a small electric fence. Hint: the yellow plastic coating on a small section of wire denotes direction of next tee

Cracking course, windy but really good test and fun at the same time. Unlike a lot of other links courses, if you go off track you usually find your ball as the sheep keep and cattle keep the rough short! Stunning views, not pretentious, sheep, cattle, dog walkers around to make it feel different. Very good Guineas in the bar as well. Top notch.

I unabashedly think rounds at Brora, and likewise Crail and Western Gailes are the glue that binds great Scottish golf itineraries.

Brora was our second round of the day, driving half an hour north after a mid-morning round at Royal Dornoch. We tees off at 6:30pm and after five holes never saw another player on the course. We played into the twilight with no caddie, no yardage/course guide, and no one else in our twosome. We played by instinct- there are no yardage plates on sprinklers - and had to sometimes guess which way the hole went. But it was among the most fun I had in the 12 days I was in Scotland. We simply played links golf shots and didn’t get ensconced in par or what we were shooting.

It is a rough-hewn course. Livestock, including cattle and sheep, roamed freely on the course. The electric-fences ringing all of the greens were as charming as advertised. By the way, those greens were among the best we putted on anywhere.

The views were incredible. A poor man’s Dornoch. It is an unpretentious course where I wouldn’t tire of playing there multiple times per week.

Lovely course in a great setting. Quite a few blind tee shots. Takes a bit of getting used to the sheep & cows wandering all over the place and the electric wires circling every green that are there to, presumably, keep the livestock off of them. Bit of a slow round due to being stuck behind 2 pedestrian 4 balls but it didn't really matter. Greens in great nick and the Golf Now Hot Deal price we paid was an absolute steal.

The bucket-listers can chase Royal Dornoch all they want. I'll take the 6,200-yard Brora instead. The front nine roams right along the sea, ending at the most scenic spot on the course, the par-3 ninth hole. The back nine returns to the clubhouse on slightly higher ground, so the water views are still present. Sheep and cattle share the fairways. They're the reason for the electric fences around the greens. A burn flows through multiple holes, keeping things interesting. As for playability, the rough in the dunes is demanding but fair. You can always find your ball. Brora is beautiful.

Worth the drive to Brora...mainly a walkers course ...tough to see the next fairway and where to land the ball but that's what makes it challenging...imperative to get a course guide book...can be windy so choose a calm day if possible.
Relax take your time and enjoy the course, scenery etc.

First time I have played amongst sheep and cattle, greens fenced to keep them off!

Greens were in good condition, fairways true links style, wind was benign on the day but can imagine the course has a nasty side when wind blows.

Lots of interesting holes and testing long pars 4s.

This is a great links couse as difficult s any other links course includiing some more expensive and well known ones.
The weather was bad, wind and rain so very testing.
Sharing the course with grazing sheep and cows adds to the interest too.

A great course and a great round of golf.

If you are up in the Highlands to play Dornoch, then you need to warm up at Brora. This is a delightful seaside links. The links play fast and firm. The par 3s are memorable and have about a 4 club difference. The par 5 eleventh with a burn in front of the green was memorable. The majority of the front nine plays along the sea and there is not any out of bounds. If you want/need to play from the beach, then you can.

Yes, you will play among livestock, yes the links is classic outward nine in one direction and inward nine the other; however, Brora is a charming seaside links with a nice variation in the length of holes. The back nine is the better of the two (despite being inland). Clubhouse was welcoming as well as the locals at the 19th hole. You can watch people come in from the clubhouse. Sunrises must be amazing here.

The pace of play was spectacular-just under 3 hours. Overshadowed by Dornoch, I would still recommend coming here-you won't regret it.

It was the first time playing this course. We picked it as a warm up course for Royal Dornoch. The experience was excellent. The weather was perfect and the course was in great condition. Right along the ocean with great views. I will return.

True links golf with sea on the right on first nine holes but never in play. No big sand dunes but the course undulates and you get the odd bounce here and there. The 7th hole has a burn across the front of the green and is an excellent hole as is the par 3 9th which plays down to the beach.
Back nine holes were very slow as we caught up people using caddies.
Can't comment about the 19th hole as we didn't go in, I think this was due to a combination of the slow play on the back nine and the unhelpful person in the pro shop when we arrived. He didn't seem to care if we had come to play the course or not.
Beware of the greens, if you are short you roll off, if you are long you roll off, they are a great challenge.
Enjoyed the course and would play it again.

I hope the man in the pro shop was having a bad day as I would like to think he was normally more pleasant.
We set off behind two three balls and were enjoying the challenges of the course. particularly the greens - dont be short and don't be long on them. The pace of play was good and there were no hold ups until we got to 11th hole when there were three groups on the hole, ourselves, one of the three balls in front of us and a different three ball. We then waited on every shot until the 18th and on the 13th we sat on the tee for about 1/2 hour!
Overall the course was in good condition and the greens excellent if a tad slow but if like me you have issues with links courses where you do not know where the fairway is from the tee then you may not enjoy the challenge.
